Transforming Urban Mobility with Visa. Making cities more livable with easier, connected and secure ways to pay for door-to-door journeys.

Visa has a successful history of supporting private companies, public transport operators and technology enablers to deliver digital payments acceptance in the urban mobility sector— transforming the passenger experience for millions of people worldwide. We’ve worked with more than 150 cities—large and small—around the world to implement contactless fares using debit, credit and prepaid solutions. Plus, we’ve partnered with companies to launch mobile-based solutions for electric vehicle charging and parking, and we continue to develop new solutions for tolls and shared mobility services.

To fully transform the passenger experience from the first mile to the last, we built the Visa Global Urban Mobility team of dedicated global strategists and regional implementation specialists. The team has supported contactless implementations around the world by providing guidance, best practices and hands-on assistance—helping launch projects more quickly and with maximum impact.

With an estimated three million people moving to cities every week,3 the global urban population is expected to reach 68% by 2050. It perhaps goes without saying that our cities face growing challenges. With increasing urbanization, the populations of our cities continue to rise, intensifying pressure on infrastructure and services.

When it comes to payments innovation, over a third of all Visa transactions globally are contactless. Visa have issued over 1 billion tokens to enable secure mobile payments with contactless or in-app. These new ways to pay have fundamentally changed the way Visa pay for goods and services, and their synergy with urban mobility could not be clearer.
