Passenger demand is the key to planning efficient public transportation networks. However, there is usually a lack of information that results in a public transport service that is not aligned with passengers’ actual needs, which causes overcrowding, long waiting times, and inefficient over-provision.Ultimately, the results are costly while the passengers are dissatisfied.

The passenger flow and counting enable operators to correctly forecast how demand will react to changes in supply.

The operator will be able to make:

- Optimize scheduling to ensure the service meets the demand in given time bands.

- Modify headways to avoid empty trips or, on the contrary, a glut of vehicles at the same time.

- Decide which lines and routes have the highest demand; these may then be reinforced, or the headway cut down in other lower-demand routes.

- Modify the network, adding or removing lines or stops.

New APC with Artificial Intelligence should identify

- Child,

- Wheelchairs,

- Strollers

- Bicycles

to confirm accessible area occupancy and quantify the travel requirements of disabilities, as well as parents with babies.

OD (Origin-Destination) AI functions dynamically tracks and captures passengers, then calculates passengers’ boarding and alighting features.  These captured images and features are uploaded to the APC platform, where the system matches them based on human characteristics such as hairstyle, clothing color, boarding and alighting postures, clothing style, accessories, backpacks, luggage, and so on.

The APC platform determines the time and location at which the passenger boarded and alighted.

The current situation from the PTO and PTA side

New information about passenger transportation has become necessary and mandatory for effective city transport operations and is required by City Transport Authorities.Transport Bus Operators do not consider new existing APC functionality when purchasing new buses, trolleybuses, trams.

The current situation from the Supplier side

Most APC sensor suppliers offer counting sensors with API for integration with on-board computers.

Some suppliers offer complete solutions with a simple reporting system. Most of suppliers continued to offer counting sensors without OD (Origin-Destination) features.

Missed applications.

Platform for Passengers Counting Analytics, integrated with APC System Optimization tool using Passenger Counting Data OD (Origin-Destination) feature

Main Target today

Public Transport Authorities need a complete solution for analytics and optimization using Automatic Passenger Counting Systems with complete counting data (Adults, Childs, Wheelchairs, Strollers, Bicycles and OD (Origin-Destination) data).
